What a year 2013 has been! As I reflect on the past events of 2013 it seems a daunting task to surpass the accomplishments of the year. However, setting goals is the only way to push oneself to further growth and accomplishment. I have never been a big fan of setting huge resolutions but rather smaller attainable goals that help us work our way to success in all of its facets.

For many of you today is just another Monday. However, it is a Festivus for the rest of us! If you are unaware of the fictional holiday portrayed on the sitcom Seinfeld, it contains one tradition that must not be overlooked. That is the Airing of Grievances. So I thought it would be fitting to talk about something that I am disappointed with.
Often I have heard pregnant patients complain of the discomfort they are feeling not only from the changes in their bodies but from the need to adapt to new sleeping positions. Especially as they get later on in their pregnancy it becomes more difficult to find positions to get and stay comfortable in. Some positions such as lying on their stomachs have been determined to be dangerous as the baby is developing in the womb.
I recently posted an article I came across on the popular WebMD site talking about how chiropractic care can reduce the cost of medical expenses from several factors such as decreased need for surgery, and reduced cost of X-ray and MRI.
‘Tis the season not only for gift giving, good food and family, but for Health plans to renew. Most plans and accounts reset on Jan 1st. Some are counting down the days until their plans reset and they get more approved visits. Where others are wondering, what to do with the money left in their HSA or FSA accounts.
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday this week it is difficult to not reflect on all that we have and how greatly blessed we are, especially with current world tragedies around us like the disaster in the Philippines. Often we like to focus on the negative that is going on around us and the things we wish were different or we would like to change. Most of the news media is somewhat negative and focuses more on the horrible things around us rather than the uplifting stories and miracles that occur on a daily basis.
The other day I found out that you can learn how to pack a parachute online. With the internet you can find so much useful information on so many topics. However, you won’t know the effectiveness of the information you found until it is already too late.
As today is Veterans day it seemed appropriate to give thanks and respect to those men and women who have and/or are giving of their time and service to protect the freedoms that we have in this wonderful nation. All too often these individuals are looked over and unappreciated for their dedication to serve and protect this nation so that the people here do not have to live in fear of threats from other nations.
What would your reaction be if you received a prescription and rather than seeing a medication listed it read “Positive Mental Attitude, use daily as needed”? I think most would not look at positivity as a means of solving their problems. However this can be exactly the case in many situations.
Last week I posted a picture of a woman getting an ultrasound. This meme is meant to demonstrate the good that the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare will do to help prevent illness in women through better access to screening procedures. The problem with this is the complete incorrect use of the word “Prevention”.
